1. MASHELKAR WITHDRAWS HIS REPORT

The Mashelkar Committee set up by the commerce minister Mr. Kamal Nath to inquire whether patentability to NCE's should be restricted & whether micro organisms should be patentable had submitted a report. On investigation by Chan Park and Achala Prabha (their articles published in 'The Hindu' and 'Times of India') it was found that the report plagiarised the submissions of one Mr. Shamnad Bashir who had made the submissions on behalf of Interpat a pharma sponsored association. Mashelkar then withdrew the report vide a letter.
